This weekend was the last of the wedding marathon I seem to have been participating in all summer! I've seen several of my favorite people get hitched and have loved every minute of it - but it's become really exhausting. This one required a two hour plane ride and then 4 hours in the car to get to, so it takes the cake as far as travel is concerned. It also takes the cake as far as great reunions with so many friends! Needless to say, it was quite the weekend and after a flight delay last night, I needed some sleep this morning.
My plan was to run my 14 miles run in two sessions today, but this morning's run just didn't happen. I was exhausted. So tonight I decided to run a 10K and just push my speed a little bit. I'm hoping one week without a long run will be okay. It probably isn't the smartest thing to do - but sometimes life takes over and I'm not going to beat myself up over it.
So, even though I didn't get 14 miles in today - I did get in a pretty stellar 6.2. I ran my first 10K about 18 months ago and have never broken the hour mark (I'm slow, remember?) - UNTIL TONIGHT! For some reason i was just cruising and felt pretty good. It was so nice to know that all of the hard work is paying off and that my speed/endurance seems to be improving. If I had actually been in a race I wonder how I would have done? It was definitely a good feeling.
